The Kids Can Sew program is fun and easy for a young child to understand with projects designed for a child to complete in a short period of time. The curriculum starts at the very beginning and teaches basic sewing skills to children and focuses on clothing the child can wear.
Sewing classes are two-hours of instruction two times per month. Sometimes these classes can be varied to meet the needs of the students and the locations of the classes.
A monthly fee is charged for 4 hours of instruction.
Class size is limited to 4 students. This enables the instructor to personalize sewing instruction to each child.
A realistic goal is to enable each student to finish at least one article of clothing every month. Some students work at different paces and may finish their garment faster or slower.
Most of the clothing projects from the Student Workbook and Pattern Packet are designed to be completed in three to four hours of instruction.
It is vital that each student own their Student Workbook and Pattern Packet. Each packet requires 10-12 months to complete.
The kids love making these projects.
All sewing machines and sewing equipment is provided by the school.
Each student provides their own supply of sewing notions and fabric.
At times some craft items may be intermingled with the garment projects for additional fun and learning.
An annual Fashion Show will be held to allow the students to show off their garments. This establishes a sense of pride for their accomplishments.
